This beautification project was started in 2004 to add a little landscaping to the Middle School/High School campus.  It has been the combined effort of the Argyle MS/HS PTSA, the Maintenance Staff, Master Gardeners and the students .

We started by planting two Chinese Pistache trees in a courtyard area by the gyms.  The money was raised by the first graduating Seniors of the new Argyle High School.  The Chinese Pistache was chosen by the Seniors' Student Advisor.  She has always loved the mature Chinese Pistache in downtown Denton.

In the Spring of 2005 we planted native Texas plants at the marquee, hoping that once they were established they would take care of themselves.  We did not plan on two years of drought!  We chose Maiden Grass, Liriope and Thrift.  The Maiden Grass and Liriope are surviving, but the Thrift that survives so well most places did not make it.

In January of 2006 we added 100 daffodil bulbs purchased by the PTSA.  In March we expanded the bed by the marquee and planted 41 flats of jasmine.  This Fall we added mums and pansies to give it a little color while we wait for the jasmine to fill in.

The area next to the front entrance of the school was started once construction on the new Performing Arts Center was completed. After much discussion, it was decided that we would start with jasmine and then add taller plants when the funds became available.  In February of 2006 we planted 40 flats of Jasmine with the help of members of  NJHS, 4-H, the PTSA and Master Gardeners.  This task was made much easier with help from Maintenance.  Using augers they dug the holes in advance.  Students and other helpers just had to pop the jasmine in and cover it up.  This Fall Maiden Grass was added to screen the large drainage pipes, and Youpon Hollies were added to give height to the bed.  The grasses were planted by a Master Gardener; the Youpons needed a lot more muscle and were planted by the Maintenance staff.

We would like to thank Lantana Gardens, Home Depot Landscape Supply, and Noles Enterprises for their generous discounts on plants and materials.  Funding for these projects was made possible by the Argyle MS/HS PTSA, the Class of 2003, Class of 2004 and Argyle ISD Maintenance.

Future plans include trees along the front walk, a bed of roses out by the drive and a brick plaza for students to use as an outdoor classroom, a waiting area, or for any number of activities.  Funds for future projects are being raised by the PTSA.  They are selling personalized bricks and applying for a grant.
