DENTON COUNTY MASTER GARDENER ASSOCIATION BOARD MEETING
JANUARY 5, 2005

President -elect Carolyn Tinner called the DCMGA Board of Directors Meeting to order at 9:15 am.  Those in attendance were Carol Appleby, Karen Archambault, Annie Brackin, Annell Burns, John Cooper, Linda Krimm, Maurine LeBeau, Pam McClimon, Carolyn Tinner, Linda Williams, Donna Wolfe and Mary Morrow.

Mary Morrow, Secretary, submitted the minutes from the December meeting. Linda Krimm made a motion to approve, Linda Williams, seconded the motion and all present approved.

Maurine LeBeau gave a review of parliamentary procedures, advising the board that the minutes and the treasurer's report are accepted as read or corrected and do not need to be approved.  She also suggested any subject needing to be discussed at the general meetings be posted via web, email or snail mail prior to the meetings, so all members will have an opportunity to review the subject prior to the meeting.

Linda Krimm, Treasurer, submitted the treasurer's report.  The year end balance was $13,207.29.

Carol Appleby, Audit Committee Chairperson, advised the committee had completed the audit for 2004 and all findings were favorable.  A copy of the report was given to all present.  The committee made two suggestions regarding separate checking accounts for the Demonstration Garden and that deposits for different budget items not be combined.  After some discussion, the first item was accepted and the second denied, since members combine several items on one check, i.e. dues, shirts, annual dinner, etc.

Linda Williams, Treasurer-elect, submitted the budget for 2005.  Some adjustments were made, including incorporating $227 from the Herbarium Fund into the general budget.  The 2005 budget will be included on the website for all to review prior to February's general meeting.

Donna Wolfe, Volunteer Coordinator, advised that there will be 28 interns in the new class, which begins Tuesday, January 11. Nineteen interns will be graduating and 14 will attend the Annual Dinner/Graduation.  A total of 64 Master Gardeners and guests will be present.

Annell Burns, reporting for the Mentor Coordinator, Celia Cohen, advised that a meeting was held to review the mentor/intern relationship.  Mentors will be present on the first day of class to provide breakfast items and welcome the new class members.  There will be a potluck lunch on January 25, and the general membership is invited.

Pam McClimon, Roto-Teller Editor, advised the newsletter is officially on the website.  The deadline for articles will be the second Friday of each month.  She requested Cooper's Corner make a comeback and all present agreed.

Maurine LeBeau, Program Coordinator, advised that February general meeting will be a presentation on vegetable gardening by Tom Harpool. She gave a preview of the remaining monthly meetings.

Carolyn Tinner advised that Sue Chellew will be Hospitality Coordinator and that Jim and Carol Appleby will take over the Advanced Training Committee.  Brent Bloechle is working on the award submissions for the State Conference.  Linda Williams has been nominated as Outstanding Individual Master Gardener, along with Old Settlers School as Outstanding Project, the Roto-Teller as Outstanding Publications, and the DCMGA website for Multimedia.

The meeting was adjourned at 11:07 am.
