2018 Junior Master Gardener Specialist Training

The Junior Master Gardener® Program is growing good kids by igniting a passion for learning, success, and service through a unique gardening education.  This dynamic and intensive 2-1/2 day training conference is designed for those who are coordinating or supporting JMG programs at the local, county, and regional level.

Come join us and learn new ideas and techniques that will help you implement effective youth gardening programs through JMG.  Together, we can cultivate a love of plants and gardening while fostering leadership and community service in youth nationwide.

All attendees will receive a host of invaluable resources to grow JMG and youth gardening programs at the local, regional or state level.

This 2018 training is open to Master Gardeners, Master Naturalists, Master Wellness volunteers, 4H volunteers and AgriLife Extension Agents.

 

Attendees will participate in:

  • JMG Program Presentations (including a comprehensive program overview, current research findings, connecting to schools, successful partnerships, best practices, developing community support and fundraising)
  • Networking Sessions
  • Hands-on workshops

Registration Includes:

  • JMG Specialist Resource Book
  • JMG Specialist Presenter Kit including
      • USB flash drive with resource materials
      • Sample training agendas and handout materials
  • Three JMG Curriculum books
  • Meals – two lunches, one evening reception (with cash bar), snacks & drinks during training

Schedule:

The training begins with check-in at 8:00 A.M. on Tuesday, July 24.   A networking reception with the group is planned for after class on Tuesday evening.  Class ends the first 2 days at 5:00 P.M.  The conference ends at noon on Thursday, July 26.

The classes are held at the Global Spheres Center at 7801 S. Interstate 35E in Corinth, Texas, just south of Denton.

For Master Gardeners:  Specialist Service Requirements, Recognition, and Certification:

Master Gardeners who have completed the Junior Master Gardener Specialist training are expected to be a local county resource and contribute volunteer service by training other Master Gardeners and the public. After completing the training, you are required to serve at least one year as a Junior Master Gardener Specialist, providing a minimum of 20 hours of service in a designated program or project.

Upon completion of the Junior Master Gardener Specialist service requirements, you will be formally recognized at the annual Texas Master Gardener Conference, at which time you will be awarded a Master Gardener Specialist Certificate and lapel pin.  You may also apply for a $50 fee reimbursement from the Texas Master Gardener Association.  (See the reimbursement form at the txmg.org website.)

To Register:

The registration fee is $225.00.   The fee may be paid via PayPal or credit card at the time of registration, or you may mail a check after you submit the online form.   We must receive payment by July 13.  If you choose to mail a check, please make the check payable to DCMGA and mail it to:

Please note:   Supplies are ordered in advance.  Cancellations after June 26, will incur a 50% penalty deducted from the registration fee, and no refunds will be offered after July 13th, 2018.  The class is limited to 48 applicants and will be filled based on the order of receipt of payment and registration form.

For Master Gardeners, approval by the local MG Coordinator/Extension Agent is required.  We will contact the MG Coordinator or Extension Agent for approval after the registration form is submitted.   There is a limit of two people per county until June 26.  If there is still space available, the two-per-county limit will be lifted after June 26.

For Master Naturalists, 4H volunteers, and Master Wellness volunteers, we will notify your Coordinator or Extension Agent after the registration form is submitted, as a courtesy.
