Denton County Community Grove Training and Workdays

Everyone is invited to join the Denton County Master Gardeners for Fruit Grower Workshops at the Denton County Community Grove at 1029 W. Rosemeade Pkwy, Carrollton (map).  The final workshop is scheduled for June 4.  (Please note that the date was changed from May 21 to June 4.)  We will meet in the Community Room inside the Government Building at 9 A.M. for 1 hour of training.  We will then work in The Grove from 10 until about noon.  Bring work gloves, water, and hand tools, if you have them, including spades, hoes, rakes, trowels, pruning shears, lopping shears, and pruning saws.  We hope to see you there!

2019 DCMGA Fruit, Vegetable, Herb & Flower Show

Have you planted a spring garden? Plan now to enter the 2019 DCMGA Fruit, Vegetable, Herb & Flower Show on Saturday, June 15 at the Denton County Historical Park and Community Market at 317 West Mulberry Street in Denton (map).

Show Schedule: 

Entries will be accepted between 9 and 10 A.M.  Judging begins at 10 A.M.  Winners will be announced at noon.

Show Rules:

  • Exhibitors must be residents of Denton County.
  • Exhibitors must submit entries in the appropriate division (Youth/Adult).
  • Exhibitors are welcome to enter as many classes as they like. However, only one entry per person per class is permitted.
  • Fruits and vegetables
    Each entry must be sufficient to fill a dinner plate.
  • Herbs and flowers
    1. Arrangements are restricted to a single species (an arrangement of roses is acceptable; an arrangement of roses and daisies is not).
    2. Exhibitors must provide their own container for arrangements.
    3. Potted garden flowers and herbs are also accepted.

Spring Children’s Garden

Denton County Master Gardener Association invites children (and their parents) to learn about gardening through planting, maintaining, and harvesting vegetables and herbs.  Join us every Thursday morning (March 21–June 13) from 10 to 11 A.M. at Fairoaks, 1950 Lattimore St., Denton (map).  There’s no need to register, and attendance is free.  Come every week or come when you can.

Junior Master Gardener Camp

Co-sponsored by Denton Parks and Recreation and DCMGA. July 22-26; indoor classrooms and outdoor learning at the Newton Razor Elementary.  Children 6-11, cost $65.00.  Register at www.dentonparks.comView or print the flyer.

DCMGA Speakers Bureau Presentations

May 14, 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Some of the Favorite Plants of Denton Master Gardeners. Location: The Robert & Lee DuVall Center at 948B Highland Village Road.

May 20, 10:00 – 11:00 a.m.; Herbal Branch meeting. Stephanie Porter, Lynn Kiefer, and Patty Cooke will present Making Potpourri.  Please bring dried herbs and flowers to share. Location: Extension Office. For more information contact Suzie Cook at sc_cook31@hotmail.com.

DCMGA “Herbal Branch” Special Interest Meetings

Join the Master Gardeners one Monday each month, 10:00 – 11:00 A.M., at meetings of the Herbal Branch Special Interest Group.  Everyone is welcome and admission is free.   Each meeting will feature a presentation related to herbs.

The meetings are held at the Denton County offices of the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension at 401 W. Hickory Street, Suite 115, Denton TX 76201-9026, unless otherwise specified.  

  • May 20:  “Making Potpourri” by Master Gardeners Stephanie Porter, Lynn Kiefer, and Patti Cooke

DCMGA General Membership Meetings

Everyone is invited to join the Master Gardeners, the second Wednesday of the month (except January, February, August, and December), 9:30 – 11:00 A.M. (unless otherwise noted), at their general membership meetings.

Meetings feature speakers on a variety of topics.  The meetings are held at the Denton County offices of the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension at 401 W. Hickory Street, Suite 112, Denton TX 76201-9026, unless otherwise noted.

The following programs are scheduled:

  • June 12: “History of Painted Flower Farm and Native Plants” by Painted Flower Farm staff
  • July 10: “Photographic Tour of English Gardens” by Master Gardener Michelle Rawleigh
